Quick and Snuggly Bernat Blanket yarn Pattern

This Bernat blanket yarn pattern worked up super quick using the Griddle Stitch. It consists of a double and single crochet one row repeat. Across the row, you’ll be alternating between each stitch. So once you get the hang of it, it moves along super fast.

Design Info

I loved the fuchsia color in this blanket; it was a perfect contrast to the white. This is my second blanket using the Bernat Blanket yarn and it is one of my favorites. It is super soft. And the perk is that while working on it, you can cover up with it! šŸ˜ And the Bernat crochet blanket only took 2 balls of each color. I rounded out the design with a size N (10mm) crochet hook.

Learnings to share

There are a couple of things I want to share while making this Bernat blanket yarn pattern!. First, I only wrap the yarn once around my finger while crocheting; otherwise it tended to get stuck on my fingers.

Second, I used stitch markers to mark the first stitch of each row. Otherwise I had a tough time determining the first stitches with a more chunky yarn. And it’s important to count your stitches every couple rows to make sure a stitch isn’t missed.

Third, for the pattern repeat, you’ll always being doing the double crochet stitches into the single crochets of the previous row. And you’ll always be doing the single crochets into the double crochet of the previous row. It’s a nice check while working on the blanket to make sure you don’t skip a stitch.

Lastly, you’ll want to make sure not to crochet too tightly as it’ll be hard to get your crochet needle through the stitches.

  • Can adjust size as needed – foundation row needs to be an even number of sts.
  • Chain 3 at the beginning of each row counts as the 1st double crochet.
