Herringbone Half Double Crochet Blanket Pattern

I was excited when I saw this finished blanket. The Herringbone Half Double Crochet Stitch gives the blanket beautiful texture while also being super easy to crochet. What’s cool is that I had picked out this yarn on my very 1st trip to Herrschners months ago. I really love both the teal and purple colors so I designed a blanket that I think really shows the colors. And the icing on the cake is how soft this yarn is!

Design

For this blanket, I wanted to keep the stitches pretty simple. I love the half double crochet stitch so I chose a variation of the half double crochet that gives the blanket some texture. Then to help the stitch stand out, I layered in rows of single crochet.

For the border, I did 3 rounds (one with each color) of single crochet to keep it nice and simple.

For the blanket size, I chose to keep it smaller so it’s a lapghan size. But it would be super easy to add on stitches to make it wider if preferred. What’s perfect is this can be done with any number of stitches for the foundation row!

Materials

For the hook size, I chose the 5.5mm (I/9) since that’s what the yarn packaging suggested. I think it worked perfectly for the stitch I used; the blanket is denser making this blanket super warm.

For the yarn, it chose me! When I was looking around at yarn, this yarn jumped out at me. It is extremely soft and has a beautiful shiny, sheen to it. And the plus was that it was super easy to crochet with. If you aren’t able to get Premier Ever Soft yarn, then Caron Simply Soft or Big Twist Soft would also work.
