Granny Square Crochet Country Blanket

I love the repetition and flexibility of Granny Square crochet and this blanket was no exception. This blanket uses 3 different crochet stitches for 2 rounds of each stitch. And I love how easy it is to take this project and work on it while on the go or traveling in the car which is where the flexibility part comes in!

Design

For this Granny Square crochet blanket, I wanted to keep it simple, but also add some dimension. So I used 3 different stitches to help with that: half double crochet, double crochet, and treble crochet.

For the colors, I love how how a country blue and pink look together, so I combined them for this project. And then I added a dark gray to really help the colors pop. I chose to have the border a little thicker to really help with making the pink and blue standout.

My recent projects have all been smaller lapghan or baby blankets, so with this project I wanted to go bigger. It measures over 5ft long by 3ft wide. So it makes the perfect blanket to cozy up in and watch a movie!

Materials

For the hook size, I chose the 6mm (J/10) since that’s what the yarn packaging suggested. I think it worked perfectly for the stitches I used. It really helped to make each type of crochet stitch stand out.

My yarn choice was based on the colors I had in my head for the project. I roamed Joann’s until I found just the right colors. And they worked perfectly together. The Lion Brand Heartland yarn is so soft. And it was super easy to work with.
