Tunisian Half Double Crochet Baby Blanket

Crocheting a baby blanket is a heartwarming and thoughtful gift, and the Tunisian Half Double Crochet (THDC) stitch creates a beautifully textured, cozy, and warm fabric—perfect for little ones. In this blog post, I’ll walk you through the materials and steps needed for creating the Tunisian Half Double Crochet baby blanket.

Design

The Tunisian Half Double Crochet Stitch is a 1 row repeat and can be used with any number of chain stitches. I’m in love with the sparkly mint yarn – its so pretty and I couldn’t wait to make a blanket out of it. I think it turned out perfect!

For the border I used the ribbed border stitch which consists of versions of double crochet stitches. The ribbed border stitch adds a beautifully textured and defined edge making it perfect for finishing the blanket. The ribbed border is creating by alternating between front post and back post double crochet stitches which creates the raised, ridged effect that mimics the look of knitted ribbing.

Materials

For the Tunisian Half Double Crochet Stitch Baby Blanket, I used Joann’s Big Twist Twinkle Yarn in Mint which gives the blanket a beautiful, soft and sparkly look. I used a size J (6mm) Tunisian Crochet hook for the blanket and an H (5mm) Crochet hook for the border.
