I was honored to create a baby blanket for another co-worker and the only rule was that it had to be gender neutral. The waffle stitch crochet baby blanket was created; a beautiful blanket with the texture, ruffle border, and ombre color yarn going together perfectly.
Design
I’ve been wanting to try the Waffle Stitch for a while, and realized this was the perfect opportunity. It provides beautiful texture while also keeping the stitches tight so little baby finger and toes don’t get caught. At first I was a little intimidated by the Waffle Stitch, but once I realized it just a 2 row repeat using the double crochet stitch and front post double crochet stitch, I was all in on trying it.
For the border I wanted something with a little dimension to it. Thankfully Pinterest is there to give me some inspiration! I fell in love with the ruffle border. And again because it’s only double crochet stitches, I was ready to try it.
Materials
My last couple baby blankets used shades of green and white yarn, so for Waffle Stitch Crochet baby blanket I wanted to try something different. When I saw the Bernat Softee Baby yarn in Baby Baby, I knew it was perfect for a gender neutral baby blanket. The yarn has shades of yellow, pink, blue, and green. Plus it’s super soft. And the yarn is really easy to work with. I’m very happy with the choice of yarn. I used a size H (5.0mm)
