The Alpine Crochet Stitch is a favorite among crocheters for its rich texture and sophisticated look. When combined with the charm of a baby blanket, it makes for the perfect gift or keepsake. This stitch is celebrated for its dynamic, three-dimensional texture that’s both eye-catching and practical. The raised design not only adds visual interest but also gives the blanket a cozy and warm feel—perfect for wrapping up a baby in softness.
Design
The Alpine Crochet Stitch is an advanced beginner stitch. It’s a 4 row repeat that includes chains, single crochet, double crochet, and front post treble crochet stitches. If you know the basics of crochet, you’re ready to tackle this pattern. The front post double crochet adds a bit of challenge, but it’s easy to learn.
I kept the border very easy by only doing a row of single crochet stitches followed by 2 rows of half double crochet stitches. I wanted to keep it simple to not take away from the beauty of the alpine stitch.
Materials
For the Alpine Stitch Baby Blanket, I used Caron’s Simply Soft Yarn in White. I wanted to keep it pure and elegant, but the white also gives a sentimental feel. I used a size H (5mm) hook which worked well with the stitch. You can use any #4 worsted weight yarn.
