I have always loved the look of knit items, but I’m not very quick with knitting. So I was excited when I found Tunisian crochet as some of the stitches really look knit. This Tunisian blanket was created out of some of my favorite stitches I wanted to try: Tunisian Simple Stitch, Arrowhead Stitch, and the Honeycomb Stitch.
Design
The Tunisian crochet blanket is made up of 3 different colors (teal, gray, and yellow). I love the color teal and wanted to create a project using it. And then chose the gray and yellow as they were nice contrast. I also used 3 different stitches like I mentioned before: Tunisian Simple Stitch, Arrowhead Stitch, and the Honeycomb Stitch. I tried out several different Tunisian stitches but fell in love with the Honeycomb Stitch. The texture is so pretty and it looks like small honeycomb.
The slip stitch method is used to bring the panels together. The blanket is finished off with mixed colored tassels on each end to help bring together all 3 colors. For my first Tunisian blanket and being the first time I’ve even tried Tunisian, I have to say it was a lot of fun making this blanket. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and I was super excited to see the finished product.
Materials
For the yarn choice on this project, I was looking for something easy to work with but also soft since it’s a blanket. So I chose the Big Twist Value yarn from JoAnn’s. I really enjoy working with this yarn as it doesn’t split on me and slides easily on the crochet hook. But any type of size 4 medium weight yarn would work great for this project.
I chose the size J Tunisian hook because of the curling. In doing the research on Tunisian crochet, several crocheters suggested going up 2 hook sizes. Even with going up in hook size, I still needed to block the blanket panels, especially the Simple stich panel. It’s important to make sure all panels were the same length and width to line them up correctly at the end.

- Complete the Return Pass (RetP) as written unless otherwise instructed in pattern.
- Use stitch markers alongside panels to mark every 10 or 20 rows. Makes it easier to line up each panel when you’re slip stitching them together at the end.
- The Tunisian Simple Stitch Panel will be quite a bit shorter than the other 2. Make sure to stretch it to the same length and width and then steam it to keep its shape.
